All You Need To Know Regarding Depression Cure -- Learn About Interesting Ideas Now

By: Nathan Knightley

There are many varied types of depression. Without realizing it or accepting it, many Americans suffer from some sort of depression. Studies estimate that at least 14 million Americans suffer from depression. It is also estimated that less than a third of those affected will ever seek treatment. Why is this the case? Mental illness is a scary concept, and that's where depression has been filed. Nobody wants that label applied to them. There was a time in our history when those who suffered mental illness were shunned by society. It was common to lock away people in facilities for the mentally ill when they exhibited signs of depression. The good news is things have become different. However, old stereotypes have not. Many Americans keep their problem to themselves, motivated by this.

Depression is caused by many factors. It is not a simple diagnosis. You have to take into consideration the chemical imbalances in the brain, genetics, biology and even the environment surrounding the individual. Drug abusers and alcoholics can develop depression, but so can people just dealing with every day life situations and stress. These elements and more can lead to depression. So what are some of the treatments and cures available for those that are inflicted? Just as there are many factors that can cause depression-there are many options to cure it as well. These options are generally considered after evaluating the individual afflicted with depression

There are many supposed cures for depression. There are methods of treatment available that are safe and work efficiently towards a cure for depression. A doctor looks at a number of factors to determine which combination of options to apply. Is the treatment proven clinically to be effective for depression? Does it have an appropriate dose to be effective if a drug or herb? Has the method been tested under an appropriate level of scientific method? It's time to take a look at some of the more accepted cures.

To treat many forms of depression doctors have typically prescribed a combination of drugs and psychotherapy. To treat depression a typical type of drug recommended is selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, SSRI. One of the most popular, Prozac, was first used in the United States in 1988. Drugs like Paxil, Zoloft, Lexapro, Celexa, and Luvox as well as others are also used. All have been proven to be effective. But side effects are common, including causing more depression. Becoming more common are natural treatments. A popular herbal cure is St. Johns Wort extract. To be effective it must contain around 3-5% hyperforin. Studies and actual cases show it to be as effective as Prozac but with fewer side effects. As important as it is to find a cure-it is impossible to do so if those who suffer do not seek it. If you think you have depression, or if someone you know shows the signs, visit a doctor.
