Breeder’s Cup 2008 Entries

By: wponies

When this year’s Breeder’s Cup is run in Santa Anita in late October, there should be a number of awesome horses taking to the track. One of the very interesting things about the Breeder’s Cup is that it acts like mainstream sports as far as its selection of horses goes. In many horse races, the horses are chosen for the race based upon money, or prestige, or some other factor that has nothing to do with racing. At the end of the year when all of the money is on the line, the best horses are the only ones that get a chance to run. That is what sets this event apart from the others.

So what are we to make of the Breeder’s Cup 2008 entries? There are a few things that you should know, and some of them are what you might call a “given”. One of those givens is that the Breeder’s Cup will feature some awesome horses from some of the most well known trainers and owners in the business. It figures that if we are talking about the richest race in the entire sport, the trainers with the most on the line will have their say. Another given is that you will have some horses that people have probably never heard of. This is because the Breeder’s Cup takes European horses, as well. So if you are watching and you don’t recognize a name running in the big race, you might check to see if that horse does his training on the other side of the big pond.

This year’s version of the Breeder’s Cup will have horses from Zito, Asmussen, and Mott. Those are three trainers that have cemented their names in horse racing history and they really get the job done. You can bet that the Breeder’s Cup 2008 entries have been trained by some very capable hands. This year’s field will feature some horses that fans will remember from some of the Triple Crown races, too. One name in the field is Curlin, a horse that is trained by Steven Asmussen.
On top of the heap right now as far as points are concerned is a horse called Commentator. This is one trained by Zito, you can bet that he will be competitive in the big races. Zito has made a career out of preparing horses to shine on the biggest stages in horse racing. With this year’s purse making the event the 2nd richest sporting event in the world, this would most certainly qualify as a “big” stage.

The Breeder’s Cup 2008 entries will definitely make this event worth watching. The committee has done a great job of tweaking the selection process so that only the best horses get to run. That’s not the most democratic way nor is it the way things are done at Belmont and Churchhill Downs, but it seems to work out really well for the fans. For those folks who want to see good horse racing, it’s a definite winner.
