Day Care Jobs – Increasing Scope

By: Amit Sharma

Day care jobs are no different from childcare jobs, which essentially mean taking care of the child in the absence of the parents or any other member of the family. Small children require supervision when they are dependent on adults for their daily needs.

Whether it is childcare as in the United Kingdom and Australia, or day care as in America, it is generally provided in nurseries. Parents drop their kids in the care of nurseries before they leave for work, and pick them up in the evening after work. Generally, these nurseries are run by individuals in their homes. However, if they get more children, they move into bigger premises and in a specific childcare facility.

With the growing demands, childcare has graduated from simple day care to a more formal structure that includes education, child development, discipline and even pre-schooling. Certain employers even provide day care facilities either within the office premises or near the place of employment.

Growing Industry

The burgeoning market for the day care industry has encouraged many people to start up day care centers, as it proves to be very profitable. The number of two-income household, more and more people are relying on day care centers to look after their children as they go about with their daily tasks and work life.

The day care industry has come to the rescue of working mothers who can pursue their careers without worrying about their kids. On the other hand, many women find day care far more enjoyable and lucrative than run-of-the-mill jobs in offices and factories.

Some day care centers are purely commercial and work for profit, while others are non-profit day care centers that are largely sponsored by the Government. The Government gives various kinds of benefits to the non-profit day care centers as they are operated with a social interest. For example, they are given space at preferential rent.

Nonetheless, the home day care centers are most common. They are generally operated by a single individual or a small family and are run out of the homes of the owners. Many stay-at-home parents find this concept very convenient as they can earn an additional income while taking care of their own child.

Day care and Child Development

Regarding the apprehensions of some parents about day care and child development, it is seen that good day care provides more varied experiences than regular parental care does. Thus the child grows into a multi-faceted personality. In a day care, the biggest advantage is that the child interacts with other children from different families and learns to cope with their peers, sharing and building good rapport within a group. In fact, many parents are highly appreciative of the various learning methods used in day care centers.

Thus, good day care can complement good parenting and develop the child into a well-rounded individual.
