Does Your Computer Run Slower Now?

Does it worry you that your computer is running slower than when it was new? Is it frustrating that when you are in a hurry your computer seems to think that it has all day? Perhaps you need to do some routine maintenance today to speed up your computer.

There are several things listed here below that you can do yourself even if you don't consider yourself to be all of that literate of a computer user. This defrag program will arrange the files on your hard drive in a more logical fashion so that your computer can find these files quicker when it needs them.

Running this program from your computer control panel again will only take you a few minutes and it is also already residing on your computer. All you have to do is tell it to inspect your hard drive and when it finishes once again you will see an incremental increase in the speed of your computer.

Also consider investing in some software to protect your computer from invasion of spyware. Spyware is software that unethical marketers manage to sneak on to your computer that spies on you and reports back to the merchant. Along with exposing your personal information the very process of reporting back to the merchant slows down your computer. You can take advantage of one of the many free anti-spyware programs available on the Internet or increase your protection a notch or two by investing $30 or $40 in a corporate level program that is surer to protect you against invasion.

The next thing you want to do is strip the excess fat from your computer. Over the time that you have owned your computer you have probably installed some programs that you no longer use. Tell your computer to uninstall them and this will free up additional room on your hard drive so that it can work more efficiently and effectively. If there are no programs that you bought that you want to remove then look for programs that the manufacturer of your computer installed. Most likely you have never used them and never will. They are only there to make money for large corporations. If it looks like a program that you will never use then again just tell your computer to uninstall the program.

This next tip will probably cost you in the range of $50-$100 but if you spend a significant amount of time on your computer and have been frustrated at how slowly it is running then it will be a very wise decision indeed. Find out how much random access memory your computer is running with at this time. Perhaps the easiest way is simply to open up the instruction book that came with your computer. If you are a complete and total novice simply write down the name and model number of your computer and take it to your local store that stocks memory sticks. You will find many of the largest chain stores sell these memory sticks. Just ask the salesperson there to determine what kind of memory you need and how much you can add to your computer then take that memory stick home and in 10 minutes time you will discover that you can easily install it yourself.

These are just some of the things that you can do to speed up your computer. Several of them you should just consider to be routine maintenance steps that you performe periodically. While it might take you an hour or more to do them all the first time you will discover that going through these steps subsequently will take you much less time and you will always be sure that your computer is running as fast as it is physically possible of doing.
