Exercising For a Healthy You

By: Hank Lunton

Most Americans consider exercise to be a dirty word. No wonder, millions of them are obese. Individuals of all ages, genders, races, ethic groups, and backgrounds have their waist lines expanding beyond their control. Obesity leads to various other disorders such as diabetes, heart disease, and liver failure. In such a situation the only hope lies in living a healthy lifestyle, eating a well balanced diet, and exercising regularly.

There is a stereotype of exercise that runs that gamut from overactive aerobics teachers in skimpy skintight outfits to the impulse to work out constantly. Individuals seek to turn over a new leaf and exercise daily for a while, then eventually give up the practice and resume their sedimentary lifestyle. The truth is, exercise is better done over a period of time instead of all at once. Individuals who work out fifteen minutes a day tend to be healthier than individuals that work out for an hour a week.

The easiest way to exercise is to include a friend or family member. Working out in numbers allows you to draw strength and motivation from your partner, in addition to performing tasks that require another individual. If you cannot find a work out partner, look to joining an exercise group. Many gyms, fitness centers, and community groups provide exercise lessons for no or a minimal charge. This is a great way to meet friends and regain your healthy lifestyle.

It is wise to have a goal that is within the achievable realms of exercise. In fact, your set goal makes you exercise a certain amount in a whole week. Whatever your final aim may be, whether to do an exercise with ease or to run a mile without a break, make sure that the goal is within your reach.

It is not unusual for people to do goal setting as short-term and long-term goals that they strive to achieve. The long-term goal might be to pursue the aim of a healthy life while the short-term goal might be to increase your stamina for baseball. As soon as you're through with the short-term goal maintain your progress towards healthy and happy living.

In case finances pose a problem then you can choose to exercise at home . The advantages of exercising at home are many as it saves you the hassle of traveling. All you need to do is put some basic items and equipment such as weights, mats and certain gym equipments. To shed some extra pounds off you, you can also choose to exercise on the stair climber or the treadmill.

If the weather is on your side then take your exercise to the outdoors. Start small with a stroll, and if you want to take it a step further, consider jogging. Playing with kids also gives you some exercise although you need to add something more to your daily exercise regime. Going in for baseball, basketball, soccer or even plain old tag will do wonders.

Many individuals find joining a gym is an excellent way to ensure they exercise and complete their goals. In addition to the abundance of equipment found in a gym, the financial commitment often provides the much needed encouragement to work out regularly.
