Diabetes is a medical condition where your blood glucose or blood sugar levels shoot up due to various reasons. There are two main types of diabetes namely Type 1 and Type 2. In Diabetes Type 1 the pancreas stops producing insulin. Insulin is very essential for the body, as it helps to move any glucose out of the blood stream into the body's cells to produce energy. When the pancreas does not produce insulin, glucose stays in your blood, resulting in serious health problems. Diabetes type 1 normally affects children, teenagers and young adults. Diabetes type 1 is also known as Juvenile diabetes or insulin dependent diabetes
There is no specific cause for diabetes Type 1. Research shows that Type 1 diabetes has something to do with genes. Genes are not solely responsible for this type of diabetes. Actually, genetic causes in combination with certain viral infections can causes type 1 diabetes. Diabetes type 1 cannot be prevented. It is very difficult to determine who will get it and who will not.
Diabetes type 2 is the most common form of diabetes, and occurs when not enough insulin is produced by the body to control the blood sugar levels or when the body's cells do not react to insulin. Also referred to as insulin resistant diabetes.

There are many signs of diabetes that can alert a person that he may be suffering from diabetes. A sufferer may display one or more of these conditions.
The most common signs of diabetes include :
? Frequent urination : The body has to get rid of the excess amount of blood sugar through the urine
? Drinking a lot : Frequent thirst makes you drink a lot
? Eating a lot : Since your body is not converting the food to energy efficiently you tend to eat a lot
? Hunger after eating
? Blurriness of vision
? Tingling or numbness in hands and feet
? Tiredness or fatigue
? Dry and itchy skin
? Unexplained weight loss
? Recurrent infections
? Slow healing of wounds
? Nausea
? Stomach pain
Early Diagnosis of Diabetes
If you are frequently experiencing any of the above symptoms then you should consult a doctor and arrange for a simple blood test to determine whether you are showing signs for pre-diabetes. Diabetes is a serious disease and is one of the leading causes of death in the UK and USA. However, early diagnosis and adopting the correct diet, lifestyle and exercise plan enables most adults and children to live a normal life.
