The Magic of Failing Fast

By: Robert Gantt

Creating a new opportunity has always been a gamble in the world of internet marketing. You do all the groundwork as you set the machine to work, while lining up your services and figuring out all the details. You may write pages and programs and so on, but in the end, it is still a gamble as it may catch on and then again, it may not. You will never know until you try.

All that is a thing of the past. You can use the magical world of pay per click to gauge the market before you expend a lot of energy on the new enterprise.Pay per click provides real time, tracked results. So you are able to use this marketing tool as a market gauge. If the opportunity, product or service gets no clicks, the interest level is low and tells you to drop it like a hot potato. On the other hand, if there is ample interest in that newly created opportunity, product or service then you just might have a winner.

Although, this may cost a bit more, the expense is much less than purchasing program and web designs or anything else for that matter. Here is how you begin putting your plan to work.

First, you should open a Google Adwords account. Then you write your ad while asking for pre-enrollees. You will need to list the eventual benefits details of your newly launched program since you cannot legally offer a non-existent program to the public, but you can legally take pre-enrollment as a means to measure the interest of your services or product.

The rest is easy. Let it run for a few days or a week and see how it turns out. Check in often and look at the clicks you are receiving. This is a simple way to see if there is an active market for your offering. This is probably the only time where failing quickly can save you money. If your ad receives very few or no clicks, then you can safely put that idea to rest and point your energies in other directions. Preferably ones that are more profitable.

This is the magic of failing fast. What better way to test the waters before you jump in headfirst? We all know what happens when you do that, don't we? Sometimes you hit the bottom and get hurt. Failing fast is a way to know what works and what doesn't work. It is a real time meter of user interest.

Since Google gives you such a great set of tools to manage your ads, this is an easy one to manipulate. The reports alone can tell you where the clicks are coming from, what time of day they are getting hits and even what geographic zone is most active. Perhaps your offer is popular in Canada or Mexico yet not in the USA. That is a great piece of information that you can use.
